The Hawaii facility, on the island of Kauai,

is used as a continuous nursery. Corn harvested in the Midwest will be shipped to this location for planting in November.

 What is aquaculture?

Aquaculture is growing plants or animals in salt, fresh or brackish water (a combination of salt and fresh water). The word "mariculture" is often used to describe the culture of plants or animals in brackish or salt water. Open ocean aquaculture is growing marine species in the ocean at now-sheltered sites exposed to ocean waves and currents. -2
