SCIC Youth Offers Make Poverty History Workshop

"Millennium Campaign" & World Education Career Campus….

Saturday December 10 is the last WHITE BAND DAY of 2005
But even before December 10 we must take action to make sure leaders get the message that we want a humane global trading system.

What can you do? What can you do?

-wear a white band (available from scic@web.ca)
-go to www.makepovertyhistory.ca and send an e-mail appeal to Canada's trade minister and prime minister
-go to www.maketradefair.com and sign Oxfam's Big Noise petition to reform world trade

SCIC Youth Offers Make Poverty History Workshop

SCIC Youth Program staff Tracey Mitchell and Deanna Ogle have been busy delivering Make Poverty History workshops in classrooms, camps, conferences and youth groups since summer 2005. About 20 people participated in this workshop at the Making Peace Conference in Saskatoon October 29, where the focus was on demonstrating the power imbalance in global trading systems and its impact on global poverty. To inquire about having a Make Poverty History workshop at your event, contact Tracey at 956-0622 (Saskatoon).

What can you do?  What can you do?

-hold a Fair Trade Coffee Break in your workplace and hand out information from Earthbeat or from the Make Poverty History web site (SCIC can supply you with posters and hand-outs -- and white bands to sell)

-display a white banner at your home or workplace
-use BUY NOTHING DAY (Friday, November 25) as an opportunity to question the consumerism in our society that helps to make trade exploitation of others possible (visit www.adbusters.org for information and ideas)
-use Make Poverty History materials as part of your worship service or Sunday school (teaching materials and activities are available at www.earthbeat.sk.ca/worldbeat) SCIC can provide announcements or inserts for newsletters or bulletins.
