International Education Meet 2006: international destination in
higher education.
The platform to reposition the Higher Education sector of Kerala,
has been inaugurated by His Excellency R.L. Bhatia, Governor of
Kerala on February 4, 2006 at International Convention Centre,
Le Meridien, Kochi.
Education should enhance the talents of the student community.
The educational system in the country should strive to enlighten
students to become path breakers and national leaders. The
Governor said that this meet would help in making Kerala an
international destination in higher education.
In his presidential address, Education Minister E.T. Mohammed
Basheer said the Government would not make any changes in the
existing seat allocation and reservation patterns, while
admitting foreign students into various courses offered by
universities in the State.

Kerala is well known for its achievements in educational field
being led by the far reaching educational reforms initiated by
successive Governments since the formation of State. A long-term
sustainable linkage between universities here and abroad would
be initiated as part of the international meet. The Government
would not backtrack on investing in the higher education sector.
The Minister said there was no hidden agenda behind the meet. A
blueprint for action in the higher education sector in the State
would be evolved after the meet.
Finally, His Excellency R.L. Bhatia, Governor of Kerala, urged
stakeholders of higher education to evolve a consensus for
initiating reforms in the higher education sector without
compromising on merit, fairness, and social justice.
